Both cantonese and pekinese are local languages of certain areas.
Cantonese is popular in Guangdong province and Hongkong.
Pekinese is used in Beijing city.
But mandarin is popular in “all of the world”. Beijing and Guangdong people understand mandarin. The difference is prounciation.

Cantonese is very different from Mandarin, it’s the dialect which has been used mainly in Hong Kong and Guang Dong Province. Pekinese is almost 70% similar to Mandarin, just some local saying and sentence structures are different
