in addition to be used as a verb, “xuan3 ze2” could also be a noun.
eg: This is my choice= “zhe3 shi4 wo3 de xuan3 ze2”.

“tiao1 xuan3” is only can be used as a verb and more serious and careful.
eg:“tiao xuan a son-in-law”, you shall very careful because it is related to the happiness of your daughter.
“tiao” and "xuan"are used in a more casual situation.
“tiao1 ping2 guo3”=pick an apple
“xuan3 yi1 fu2”. “yi fu”=cloth

“ji” and “suan” are not interchangeable.
“ji4 suan4”=to calculate, or you may just use “suan4” for short but not “ji”.

“suan4 ji4” is another word but with different meaning.

Hi Nicolas, this is a very good question. Also Jenny’s answer is great, let me give you the standard on.

1. xuǎn zé = choice/ to choose
It is used in a more serious situation

2. tiāo xuǎn/ tiāo = to pick/ to select
Used when you are shopping or pick one thing from a big pile

3. xuǎn = to choose (can only be a verb)
