Ni hao Benny,
I ’ve been studying Chinese for one year and have just discovered your site which is pretty informative. Now about the Chinese language, one question though, because I am puzzled to know why
there are many way to say something.
In a Chinese conversation I heard: “qu nar” and “qu na li”.
Is there a difference or is it the same thing to say “where are you going”.
Thank you for the reply and congratulation for your Chinese courses.

HI Mary, I had the same experience before, but fortunately Benny has explained to me.

In fact, “na li” and “na er” means the same thing, “na er” is used mainly in north of China, especially Beijing. BUt in the South people don’t use “er”

If you go to Beijing, you can actually hear “something + er” all the time, I guess this is the accent and to be honest, it just bothers me
