原来如此

I see people speaking 原来如此 a lot in Chinese movies, but I never clearly understood its meaning, maybe it’s something that can’t be exactly expressed in English. It’s maybe used when you are confused about something or you cannot find a solution to a particular problem, and then finally something comes up in your mind (a bulb lights up) and you say 原来如此 which may indicate that you found a solution or you know why a particular incident or event took place.
