Hi, Ruby, they are all names. So we can just use Pinyin: 牛郎 = niu lang (cowboy), and 织女 = zhi nv (weaving girl).

It’s a Chinese ancient legend. Niu lang and Zhi nv fell in love and got married, but their relationships was forbidden in that time because Zhi nv was a fairy from heaven. They were only allowed to meet once a year on the 7th day of the 7th lunar month. As a result, it becomes Chinese Valentine’s day. It is also called Qi Xi.

This year, 2007, Qi Xi occurs on August 19.
