On the word “xie xie”, even though one “xie” is a different tone then the other, they’re characters are still exactly the same? Could you explain why that is, Benny?
Thank you. You’re a really great teacher.

Hi, one single “xie” doesn’t make sense in Chinese. but “xie xie” means “thanks” and the characters are exactly the same.

There are many single words in Chinese don’t make sense, therefore we need to put another words either after or before them to make sense.
