hi benny,

if Hěn, means very..

then why is that
“Hěn gāoxìng rènshi nǐ.” means
Nice to meet you.

if i would translate that it means “very nice to meet you”..

what’s the logic behind it??
thanks

Hi Hannahkim,

“Hěn gāoxìng rènshi nǐ” literally means “very happy to meet you” but as for English, people usually say “Nice meet to you”.

That’s why we chose to translate like this

I have read that hen 很 is often mis translated as very, although it can mean very it usualy doesn’t, like hen hao 很好 means “good” not “very good”.
Only when the emphasis is on 很 it means “very”…
Or am I wrong Benny 我尊敬汉语老师
