Ni hao? This is a cool site. I have a question and I hope you can clear this up for me b/c it’s been bugging me for awhile. I’m having trouble with the word other in Mandarin. I’ve seen: ling wai, qi ta, bie de, and ta. It’s a bit confusing for me to choose between them. Which one is the most common and can you also tell me the differences? Also give me sentence using these words. Thank you very much and have a wonderful day!

Let me clear this up for you.
Lìng wài = in addition
wǒ xūyào kāfēi, lìngwài, wǒ xū yào yì bēi shuǐ = I need coffee, in addition, I need a cup of water
qí tā/ bié de = the rest of/ others….
wǒ yǒu 8 ge tóngshì, 2 gè shì měiguórén, qítā rén dōushì yīngguó rén = I have 8 colleagues, 2 of them are Americans, the rest of / others are British.
“ta = he/ she”. It does have the meaning of others or the rest….
Benny
