nǐ hǎo Benny lǎo shī

May I know what’s diff. between the following words? (when to use them)

1) 挺 and 蛮

2) 贴 and 粘

If i wanna say “i give you 3 choices/options”, is it like this: “wǒ gěi nǐ sān gè xuǎn zé”

Thank you.

Hi Henry,

1. 挺 and 蛮 both mean “very or quite”, they are very verbal and spoken words and the difference eis subtle.

2. 贴 = to post and 粘 = to glue/ to past

You are right with the sentence "i give you 3 choices/options”

串 = a string of, to string up, to connect

搅 = to stir/ to mix

Good question! It seems you do a really good job in Chinese learning!

①这两个字的意思是完全一样的,e.g. 挺好=蛮好,挺漂亮的=蛮漂亮的。
区别在于:挺is more standard, 蛮is dialect which is more commonly used in Shanghai.

②这两个字的区别在于:
贴:薄片状的东西粘在另一个东西上 attach a thin slip on something by gluing
e.g. 把这张画贴在墙上
粘:黏的东西附着在物体上或者互相连接(of a sticky substance)cling to an object, be joined to sth.
e.g. 这两块巧克力粘在一起了。

③串 to string up, to connect
e.g. 把肉串起来烤
搅 to mix up, to stir
e.g. 咖啡放了方糖,你先搅一搅再喝。

I hope you keep on going in Mandarin learning!

Merry Christmas, Henry!
