I understand that garden could be “hua yuan” or alternatives, I was just wondering what the appropriate verb would be to “tend” the garden/or “garden” the garden? =) thank!

I think you can (also) use zhào liào
The example says:
My flowers in my home-GARDEN are getting lese and less, because my mother
has no time to take care (to TEND for) them.
