ok, i am a little bit confused on the usage of chi2 and wan3..when/how to use one or the other?

btw, for the sentence ‘ni3 ke3 yi3 zuo4 wo3 de nv3 peng2 you ma? , what is the function of zuo4 there? does it means ’become’? if it is, why not use cheng2 wei2 instead?

First, i think the correct pinyin for the sentence should be “ni3 ke2 yi3 zuo4 wo3 de nv3 peng2 you ma?”. because “可”=“ke3”, “以”=“yi3”. “可以” should be convert to pinyin “ke2 yi3” for natual pronunciation.
And you are right! zuo4 means “become” here. you can use “成为 cheng2 wei2” instead zuo4. But zuo4 is more natual in oral. :)
BTW: I’m a Chinese friend from Beijing

Hi, Henry. chí is usually used with “dào” as chí dào. For example:

duì bù qǐ, wǒ chí dào le = Sorry, I’m late

as “wǎn”, we put it normally with Verb, for example:

wǒ lái wǎn le = I came late
