Hi, i am curious, why when want to try something, we would say ‘shi4 shi’ instead of just ‘shi4’ ? the same goes for ‘kan4 kan’ , ‘chang2 chang’ etc,…
How to say ‘to put a night/overnight’?
for example, "i am going to put a night at my friend’s house.. "
Thanks in advance

I am going to put a night at my friend’s house = wǒ qù péng yǒu jiā guò yè
