Well. I think the better saying is that : Japanese is based on Chinese, you can see it from their writing.

What do you think of it?

hey actually japanese and chinese aren’t related languages at all ! japanese is an isolated language and maybe related to korean but chinese comes from a total different languagefamily the sino-tibetanlanguages so japanese and chinese really aren’t related . but since the chinese people had much influence on the cultures of asia in the past , lots of chinese words have entered the japanese language and the japanese also took over the chinese characters .that’s why a chinese person can read a japanese newspaper and probably understand most of it. but besides this all japanese and chinese are total different languages and even the characters have started to evolve. so some characters in japanese aren’t the same anymore as in chinese and vice versa – i hope this explanation helped you zaijian

wa~~you are very knowledgeable.
In Tang dynasty, China was very powerful. So from the history, it is natural that japanese culture was influenced by Chinese culture. Language is only one of them.
